D-MAP at GSU is a Center for Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) Summer Program funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The CREST promotes the development of new knowledge, enhancements of the research productivity of individual faculty, and the expanded presence of students historically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. D-MAP stands for the Center for Dynamic Multiscale and Multimodal Brain Mapping Across the Lifespan, reflecting the research interests of faculty and students to understand how the brain changes over the lifespan using various neuroimaging, data mining, analysis, machine learning, data visualization, and neuroinformatics technologies.

The program takes place at our 12 partner institutions and offers students a chance to develop healthcare skills, plan academic journeys, get clinical exposure, and network.
Columbia University STAR-U, NY http://www.columbianeurology.org/education-and-training/summer-translational-aging-research-undergraduates-star-u/ January 17, 2024 at 11:59 PM EST The Summer of Translational Aging Research for Undergraduates (STAR U) Program is a 2-month fully-funded research training program designed to encourage students from diverse and underrepresented communities to pursue further studies and careers in aging and neuroscience related research.
STAR U is funded by a grant from the National Institute on Aging(link is external and opens in a new window), Advancing Diversity in Aging Research (ADAR) through Undergraduate Education (R25). STAR U also receives funding from the Alzheimer's Association(link is external and opens in a new window). The program is based at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), as part of the Department of Neurology and the Taub Institute for Alzheimer’s disease and the Aging Brain.
Through a semi-structured summer research program, STAR U will provide 12-15 students per year with:
  1. Mentorship from Columbia faculty members on an individualized research project in the field of neuroscience and aging research
  2. A range of additional learning opportunities including a seminar series, journal clubs, lectures, and shadowing opportunities
  3. Professional networking and social events to foster a sense of community and mentorship that will extend beyond the STAR U program | | University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center | https://sites.google.com/site/cvcsummerfellowship/home | Jan 29 2024 11:59 PM (EST) | The University of Michigan Frankel Cardiovascular Center (FCVC) is pleased to offer an annual 10-week summer undergraduate research fellowship to support undergraduate students interested in basic cardiovascular research. The program starts the Tuesday after Memorial Day and ends the first Friday in August. The program is jointly funded by the FCVC, Esperance Family Foundation, and American Heart Association (AHA) to offer at least 30 fellowship positions within the program. Each fellow will be notified of their funding source at orientation. Each fellow will be matched to a University of Michigan laboratory led by an FCVC faculty member and participate in nationally recognized research in areas such as atherosclerosis, genetic cardiomyopathies, blood clotting disorders, cardiac arrhythmias, vascular biology, and heart failure. Fellows are expected to work in Ann Arbor in their mentor’s lab, attend weekly scientific seminar series, participate in organized social events, and present their summer research findings at the End of Summer Symposium through an oral presentation to faculty, staff, and peers. This consists of a lab placement, attendance at Neurological Surgery Grand Rounds, OR observations, Friday talks by faculty to this group, and a final student PowerPoint presentation and graduation in front of family, friends and mentors. Founded in 2008, the program has placed 171 high school and college undergraduate students (including 9 Rainier Scholars) age 18 and older from 90 different schools in the program. We have had over 1500 applicants from 43 states and territories. Students have participated in 20 different laboratories hosted by 24 faculty members. They have attended over 148 unique Neurological Surgery Grand Rounds presentations and observed over 500 surgical procedures and clinical shadowing opportunities by following 23 different attending neurological surgeons and 2 different neuro-hospitalists at three different UW-affiliated hospitals. Students have also participated in 92 weekly student group presentations by 27 different faculty members. Although still a very young program, over 25 students from earlier classes have gone on to neuroscience, medical school, or Ph.D. neuroscience programs.
