The position is in Baltimore, MD, a city with a stimulating scientific and cultural environment, on the Johns Hopkins Bayview medical campus.

Position Type: Postbaccalaureate Fellowship Position Description: The National Institute on Aging, a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is recruiting one post-baccalaureate fellow to join the Translational Gerontology Branch, Intramural Research Program(IRP), with a background in any of the following areas: biochemistry, cell culture, microscopy, enzyme assays, DNA repair, genome biology, and genetic models. Our focus is to investigate the functions of helicase enzymes defective in hereditary disorders displaying age-associated clinical features and cancer. Genetic and biochemical approaches are used to characterize the roles of helicases in cellular nucleic acid metabolism through their catalytic functions and protein interactions. State-of-the art experimental approaches include siRNA/CRISPR screens, pharmacologically active small molecules, single-molecule DNA fiber studies, live cell imaging by immunofluorescence confocal microscopy, protein biochemistry, and enzyme kinetic assays. Molecular therapies are tested in preclinical models.
